K&S Masonry Restoration is a local masonry company working across Delaware County and the Philadelphia suburbs. Brick, stone, block, concrete, and stucco — new work where it is wanted, and the repair of existing masonry where it has started to fail.
The word in the name is the important one. Restoration is a different discipline from new construction, and it is the larger half of what we do. Anyone can take a wall down and build it back; the skill is knowing how little you can disturb while still fixing the actual problem, and how to make new work sit alongside hundred-year-old brick without announcing itself.
That matters here more than it would in a newer part of the country. Much of Delaware County's housing stock was built with soft brick and soft lime-based mortar, designed to flex and to let moisture pass through and evaporate. Repair it with a modern high-strength mix and the wall loses that flexibility — the mortar ends up harder than the brick, so the next freeze cracks the brick face instead of the joint. That single mistake has destroyed more historic brick around Philadelphia than the weather has. We match mortar to what is already on the house as standard practice, not as an upgrade.
The other half of the job is water. Almost every masonry failure we are called to look at — spalling brick, a leaning retaining wall, hollow stucco, a chimney dropping mortar into the gutters — traces back to water that found a way in and could not get out. So we tend to start by working out where the water is coming from rather than by quoting the visible damage. It is a less impressive-sounding first step, and it is the difference between a repair that holds and one that has to be done again.
